Name of the organization: Fundación Desarrollo y Paz (Development and Peace Foundation) – FUNDEPAZ

Title of the project: Empowering Migrants for Participation and Ownership in Regional Development (EMPOWERD)

Date of the update: October 9, 2024

The Empowering Migrants for Participation and Ownership in Regional Development (EMPOWERD) project is making significant progress in the municipalities of Tumaco and Ipiales, located in Nariño, Colombia, near the Ecuadorian border. With the support of Oxfam Italy and the Human Mobility Initiative (HMI), the project has been well received by the Venezuelan migrant community.

So far, two key activities have been successfully implemented: Strengthening Migrant Organizations and Evidence-based Research and Data Collection. These activities have engaged around 138 migrants, helping to enhance their capacity to participate in local development processes. Additionally, comprehensive data has been gathered on the challenges, aspirations, and needs of the migrant population, offering valuable insights to inform the ongoing territorial development planning.

The EMPOWERD project continues to empower migrants by giving them a voice in the decisions that affect their lives and fostering greater inclusion in regional development.
