Name of the organization: Fundación Desarrollo y Paz (Development and Peace Foundation) – FUNDEPAZ

Title of the project: Empowering Migrants for Participation and Ownership in Regional Development (EMPOWERD)

Date of the update: 07.11.2024

The Evidence-based Research and Data Collection activity has been successfully completed, engaging around 30 migrant participants residing in Ipiales and Tumaco, who were selected for their leadership and experience in civic processes. Notably, there was significant participation from Venezuelan migrant women.

A preliminary version of the reports analyzing policies and practices regarding migrant inclusion in Colombia has been drafted. Findings reveal that Bogotá stands out as the only Colombian city to have recently implemented participatory processes in developing its territorial plan, emphasizing the need for broader migrant inclusion nationwide. Additional insights include common barriers faced by migrant communities and the vital role of local governments in enhancing migrant participation.

Progress has also been made in the Policy Engagement and Dialogue activity. Officials responsible for territorial planning in Tumaco and Ipiales have participated, and members of the Territorial Planning Councils (CTP) in these municipalities have committed to joining. The CTPs are key institutions tasked with ensuring citizen engagement in the formulation and monitoring of public policies, and their involvement represents a significant step toward integrating migrant voices in regional planning.
